Kennet Lekko (b. 1992) is an artist from Tallinn, Estonia, living and working in Berlin.
Much in a way of online status updates, Lekkos work might appear positive at first glance, yet a lot of the topics depicted go deeper into darker territories of the human experience such as envy, anxiety, self-doubt and the societal treatment of these emotions. In a society transfixed on image and appearances, keeping a positive façade is paramount. Our troubles and struggles are pushed aside to present the world with a happy, healthy, rested, groomed and motivated version of ourselves. Yet after a while this mask can become a glossy prison, the wearer stuck behind it with their humanity, imperfections and struggles. So the king sits on his throne, with a sword through his neck, holding a silly smile to make you believe he is doing fine.
