Luxury knitwear edition, 100 % cotton, 3-color-jacquard (black, white and sulphur),

collaboration with TU-Chemnitz, Professorship Textile Technologies, and Georg
Maier Knitwear.

„For me, surfaces of any kind can be shaped and addressed. The challenge in
working with them is to understand the material and to establish a connection.
Thus, as in this work, a small graphic can be transformed into an independent
large-format ink drawing or even into a high-quality knitted edition. Precisely these
transitions between media and materials are of interest to me, because that’s
where creativity takes place.“

My hometown Chemnitz, formerly Karl-Marx-Stadt, can be understood as
pioneer of the manufacturing textile industry in Germany until the end of the
1980s. After reunification all state-owned enterprises were transferred to
Treuhand and were either sold or liquidated afterwards. Formerly VEB-Polar, now
Maximo Strickmoden has been specialised in knitwear and survived reunification
due to private investment by its former owners. So anyone visiting Chemnitz today
should definitely visit the wonderful collection of stockings in the Chemnitz Art
Collections. It is breathtaking how much craftsmanship and fine work was put into
a knee sock back then, which you could see just five centimetre under the skirt.
