Manon Awst is a multidisciplinary artist from Wales who explores stories we tell about the land and the stories the land has to tell about us. She studied Architecture at the University of Cambridge, before moving to Berlin to collaborate under the name Awst & Walther, exhibiting at Sammlung Boros, Georg Kolbe Museum and PSM amongst other venues.
Her playful use of materials is reflected in this new piece ‘Holding Things Afloat’ in an intimate, almost reliquary form. Part of a series of works using 3D-printed climbing holds made from recycled marine waste, there’s a quiet invitation to touch alongside an urgent warning not to engage. It is a tactile but forbidding reminder of the inevitable effect our touch and our desires have on the landscape around us.
