Lukas Lieses main artistic material is marble. Knowingly connecting to a long and traditional history of the precious stone Liese connects the material with the nature of our fast living digitality.
The smiley had a dream carrer as a central expresion of our digital communication. Can we imagine a conversation in messengers and in social meida without using the yellow circle with constantly growing options of expressions - which weirdly never exactly catch how the person is feeling. Therefore our emotional realm is nowadays limited to the options of smileys. Liese uses second drawings of smileys squeezed into a square format to approach the meaning and position in our times. Etched into marble and named positive and negative smiley the humorous aspect is obvious, the seriousness in the topic remains untouched.
