The two prints by Majla Zeneli depict elementary geometric shapes such as circles and triangles. These shapes seem to be superimposed in a two-dimensional way, organised more by some conventional relationship than by pure chance. At first, the images seem very unambiguous, but on closer inspection, further interpretations come into play. Associations are evoked not by strict similarity but by vague suggestion, such as interiors and landscapes or even emotional states. For the production of her images, Majla Zeneli has revived an obsolete graphic technique called "mezzotint", but not for the purpose of reproduction, which is a primal task of printmaking, but because of the appeal and aesthetic qualities of this etching technique, which for a long time filled the gap between painting and photography.
