The „non-objective being beneath the surface of phenomena,“ or rather the motivic and metaphoric connection that almost inevitably arises through the reductive forming of concrete natural and other phenomena, is the artistic-ideological field to which Frank Maier’s painting, in which densely constructed, finely chiselled orders of lines and shapes prevail, also belongs.
Frank Maier, 55, was born in Stuttgart. He completed his studies at the Academy in Karlsruhe as a master student of a sculptor before moving to Vienna in 1996. Since 2006 in Berlin, he has lectured at the UdK as well as at the Institute for Architecture in the field of visual arts. His works have been shown at the Museum für Konkrete Kunst in Ingolstadt, New York’s One Art Space and the Chinese Quingdao Sculpture Center, among others. He has had solo shows at galleries such as Ben Kaufmann and the Kienzle Art Foundation and is represented by the Laura Mars Gallery.
