The work of Vera Kox emerges from a context of a distinct postmodern nature carved by human interference. From this agitated topography her sculptural practice is characterized by the generative processing of everyday urban and industrial materials. Applying intense experiments to alter, modify, stretch and compress meaning and matter, she creates future relics of our modern materialistic reality.
Imprinted with mass-produced artificial materials, the folded figure not only mimics flesh but emotive subjectivity; glazed beads originate at the textured ceramic surface and merge into their own paths – a momentum of matter in a tension of union and desired continuation/flow.
Vera Kox will be presenting a solo show at Kunstverein Reutlingen in September 2021, curated by Imke Kannegießer.
