Oil on canvas
This painting was inspired by a Thomas Gainsborough painting and by experimenting with lots of linseed oil and chalk.
Despite all the surface texture I find myself very much looking ‘into’ its glow.
Phil King is an artist currently based and working in Lourdes, France and London, England. A graduate of Goldsmiths College in 1993 he went on to write catalogue essays for his friends and colleagues and later became editor at Turps Banana Painting Magazine.
Living in the UK, France and California he has never developed a coherent program with his paintings and installations and each show can look like a group show with collections and sets of works interacting in surprising narratives while at the same time pieces act as masterpieces in sadly missing bodies of work.
He has recently moved into a large building in Lourdes France where he can have several studios and has finally started unpacking and laying his work out whilst also unavoidably making lots of new paintings.
