„Warschauer Strasse“ is one of Josie Watson’s first Berlin-inspired paintings. It is an everyday portrait of one of the city’s main thoroughfares as seen through the eyes of an ordinary worker who goes about his day before the city wakes up, before Berlin’s hustle and bustle begins. This painting is based on the film “Berlin – Die Sinfonie der Großstadt” (1927) by Walther Ruttmann. Like the film, the visual intention focuses on the identity of the anonymous passer-by, the true local, the one who forms the deepest social fabric of the city, the true Berliner.
