In his painting, Daniel Grüttner lays tracks, leaves paths once taken, hits snags. In the process, the complex relationship between intuition and calculation, between the moving gesture and its shaping is constantly rebalanced. The artist’s intuition corresponds to the concept of the trace: a "ratio incerta" that approaches the unfixable and its particular lucidities. It is always a matter of decisions kept open, which find their reason in groundless determination. Images of the moment emerge - and a pictorial writing that continues to evolve, unfolding the so many possibilities peculiar to the medium - also in their contradiction." (Excerpt from a text by Dorothée Bauerle-Willert)
Daniel Grüttner (*1979 in Rotenburg an der Wümme, lives and works in Berlin) studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, where he later also worked as a lecturer.
