The title Lachen ist die schönste Art Zähne zu zeigen (by Werner Finck, 1968) roughly translates as: laughing is the best way to bare one’s teeth.
The skull is grinning at you as your mirror image (facing death), symbolizing the burden and promise of mortality and immortality / the narcissistic drive of self-immortalizing martyrdom.
The work explores the gamifications of the human condition, focusing on the intersections of love and death (life is a game and love is the price – Avicii, 2013).
This is the most recent form of a character the artist has been sketching for some while now, the losing lover / loving loser, who is both culprit and victim, agent and voyeur.
