"The work of art proves to be a trace of a truth that it keeps at a distance in order to document it grimacingly. Anna’s work is a document of this documentation. In his book on Francis Bacon, Gilles Deleuze could write: "Modern painting begins when man no longer saw himself entirely as an entity, but rather as an accidental." It is about the atheistic heritage of Christianity: with the mortal God, the subject function decays. Man dies with him, Foucault claims. But it is a matter of an agony (which already concerns the death of God) extending into infinity. Anna’s painting adds to it the ecstatic agony of painting. In the medium of the dying medium, she watches the barely successful dying of her protagonists. She turns the viewers of her paintings into voyeurs of the obscene infinity of a subject incapable of dying.
