The 78.74 inch x 98.42 inch photograph of Elmar Haardt’s main work "Land of Dreams" comprises a total of 40 large-format photographic works. They are places and landscapes of the United States, "impressively rhythmicised through visual layering in the interplay of geography and urbanity" as Balázs Jádi describes the effect of the large-format works.
"Elmar Haardt’s artistic emphasis is on the monumental, without losing sensitivity to smaller photographic details and observations." For "when Haardt handles his 8 x 10 inch camera", says Jörg Häntschel (SZ), "he seems closer to 19th century plein air painting than to the photography of 2017 (...) Their presence exceeds what we are used to from pictures. On the other hand, a strange calmness speaks from them. It is as if you can see that they contain more time than a single shot."
Elmar Haardt’s works have been shown repeatedly in Germany and internationally in Switzerland, the USA and Japan. His works are represented in the collections of the Pinakothek der Moderne, Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen Munich, and the Fotostiftung Schweiz in Winterthur, among others.
